Jannik Fritsch studied electrical engineering at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany, from 1991 to 1996. During this period he studied two academic semesters at Purdue University, USA, supported by the DAAD IAS program. He received the Dipl.-Ing. degree from the Ruhr-University Bochum in 1996. In 1998 he joined the research group for Applied Computer Science at Bielefeld University working in the Collaborative Research Center 'Situated Artificial Communicators'. He received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from Bielefeld University, Germany, in 2003. In 2004 he joined the EU Project COGNIRON (The Cognitive Robot Companion) where he headed the integration efforts for the Key Experiment Robot Home-Tour. Since April 2006 he is working as Senior Scientist at the Honda Research Institute in Offenbach, Germany, on cognitive system concepts for intelligent systems.

His research interests are biologically inspired vision architectures and the realization of intelligent systems ranging from personal robots with advanced multi-modal interfaces to active safety systems in intelligent vehicles.
